Calvert has an extraordinary eye for landscape, texture and atmosphere. Over the course of a decade he has taken a series of photographs in and around Lhasa, which convey the regions unique blending of spiritual, human and seemingly secular concerns, into a vast weave of daily living and on going change quite unlike anything else on our planet.

The original conception for the work was as a multi media presentation utilizing environmental sound, music and image. Calvert wanted a certain kind of raw, low tech immediacy to the recording to help convey the bleaker, isolated aspects of his images.
