Dali Lama Blues is a fascinating project I am currently engaged in with the wonderful British photographer, Michael Calvert. Calvert has an extraordinary eye for landscape, texture and atmosphere. Over the past decade he has taken a series of photographs of Tibet, in and around Lhasa, which convey the regions unique blending of spiritual, human and seemingly secular concerns, into a vast weave of daily living and on going change unlike anything else on our planet.
The work (concieved specifically for gallery spaces and future release on DVD) is a particular kind of mixed media creation incorporating still, manipulated and moving images, instrumental and vocal textures as well as enviromental sounds, recorded in Tibet.
The work will be performed live at the Rubin Museum in the Spring of 2007 as part of the exhibition 'The Missing Peace'. |
